Balila

Balila is a Levantine dish. In Lebanon, it is served for breakfast. Its basic ingredient is chickpeas, which are a great source of protein and complex carbohydrates. The other ingredients make the dish richer in many nutrients. Olive oil adds to the healthy fats, parsley, garlic and lemon juice add a variety of vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatory and antioxidants.

It is a very healthy dish and very satisfying, making you feel full for a long period, helping in weight loss when consumed in a well balanced diet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiled chickpeas
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • Lemon juice according to taste
  • Parsley
  • Garlic to taste
  • Salt, Pepper and cumin

Directions

In a bowl mix the lemon juice, olive oil, salt pepper and cumin. Add to them the finely minced garlic and mix well. Add the mixture to the boiled chickpeas and garnish with parsley. You can eat it with whole wheat pita bread, however, this will add to the calories.
